Spring 2008 Event Details

1) Event Schedule

Please note, this is a very tentative schedule, and is subject to change. A final event schedule will be published before the event. (Note: Family teams follow the schedule for the division in which they registered: Basic, Advanced or MouseAdventure 101)

MouseAdventure Basic and Advanced teams:

  • 8:00 am - Sign-in begins at the Paradise Pier Hotel; team photos.
  • 9:00 am - Event starts.
  • 3:30 pm - Event concludes
  • 6:00 pm - Award ceremony at the Paradise Pier Hotel.
  • 7:00 pm - Event concludes.

MouseAdventure 101 teams:

  • 10:00 am - Sign-in begins at the Paradise Pier Hotel; team photos.
  • 11:00 am - Event starts.
  • 3:00 pm - Event concludes.

Reminder: On Sunday morning, sign-in for ALL DIVISIONS will be at Paradise Pier Hotel ballroom, which is located on the ground floor of the building. This is also where the events will begin. PLEASE BE ON TIME. If the sign-in process is delayed, it will delay the start of the game and result in less game time for everyone. This would be a Bad Thing.

2) Award ceremony information:

Because the award ceremony for this MouseAdventure is again being held at the Paradise Pier Hotel Ballroom, and not in a public area of the Disneyland Resort, attendance is limited to registered MouseAdventure Basic or Advanced division players with wristbands. Players will receive wristbands in their sign-in packet for each member of their team. The ballroom will not accommodate unregistered friends, family, or children.

Registration for MouseAdventure 101 does not include admission to the post-game award ceremony. Results of the MouseAdventure 101 event will be announced on MousePlanet about a week after the event.

3) Parking:

Teams may park at the Paradise Pier Hotel parking lot for a reduced all-day rate. Teams may also park in the Mickey & Friends Parking Structure and walk to the hotel. Be sure to leave enough time for this warm up stroll!

4) Hotels:

MousePlanet has arranged hotel discounts for MouseAdventure teams at the Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel in The Anaheim Resort and the three Disney-owned hotels at the Disneyland Resort. These rates are subject to availability, and we encourage teams to make their reservations as soon as possible.

Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel:

  • Single King (max. 2 people): $79 + tax
  • Double: 20% off list + tax

This rate is available only through the hotel's in-house reservations team. Call 714-776-6120, ext. 6401 to make your reservation — the Howard Johnson central reservation system can not honor this discount. (Note: If in-house reservation center is closed or busy, calls are automatically directed to the corporate reservation center. If this is the case when you call, you'll need to call back later.)

This hotel is nearly booked for MouseAdventure weekend, so make your reservations quickly!

Disneyland Resort:

  • Disney's Grand Californian Hotel: $360 / night
  • Disneyland Hotel: $260 / night
  • Paradise Pier Hotel: $2490 / night

Call 714-520-5005 to make reservations, and tell the Cast Member that you are with the MousePlanet event on April 13th at the Paradise Pier Hotel.

Disneyland Annual Passholders might also try the main hotel reservation line to see if there are any rooms available with the "AP5" discount.

5) Wheelchair rentals:

I have made arrangements with Disney to have a very limited number of manual (push) wheelchairs available for teams to rent to use during the game. You will be able to rent these chairs at the Paradise Pier Hotel, use them for the duration of the event, then return them to the hotel after the awards. The cost is $10, and is payable in cash the morning of the event. If you would like to reserve one of these chairs, I need to know by April 10th so I can make sure Disney has them available for us.

6) Team T-Shirt and Team Mascot competitions:

MouseAdventure Basic and Advanced teams are invited to participate in the second semi-annual Team T-Shirt and Team Mascot competitions.

Mascot competition: If you will be bringing a team mascot for the competition, you do not need to do anything before the event. Just bring your mascot to the post-game award ceremony, and be prepared to show the other teams why your mascot is the best. As a reminder, Mascots must be inanimate objects, like stuffed animals. Mascots may not be live animals (including service animals), creatures, or people (including children).

Team t-shirt competition: If your team plans to enter the team t-shirt competition, here is the information you'll need to participate:

  • You must submit your t-shirt design(s) by e-mail (mouseadventure@mouseplanet.com) no later that March 31, 2008. Late submissions will not be accepted or included in the competition.
  • Images must be .jpg or .gif files.
  • If all of your shirts are identical, you only need to submit one design image. (Or two if the front and back of your shirts have a different design) If you have multiple designs for your team, submit one example of each design.
  • Please make sure that your submission is CLEARLY explained. (i.e., photo A is the front of shirt #1, photo B is the back of shirt #1, photo C is the front of shirts #2 and #3) or whatever. We're not going to spend a whole lot of time trying to decipher cryptic file notations.
  • If there's a cute back story behind your design, you may include that in your submission if you wish. BUT REMEMBER, your design(s) will be judged based on the image(s) you provide, so the design needs to speak for itself.
Helpful Reminders

If you are new to MouseAdventure, the following information is going to be very helpful. And be sure to review the “Preparing for MouseAdventure” section of the MouseAdventure page – there are lots of good hints there.

If you've been here before, go ahead and peruse the suggestions below anyway – there's important information in there, plus you never know what you've forgotten since the last game – or what has changed since the last event.

1) How to know what game you are playing:

There are three divisions for this event:

  • MouseAdventure Basic
  • MouseAdventure Advanced
  • MouseAdventure 101

Even if your team was identified as a “Family” team during registration, you should still refer to the information and rules for the division in which you registered. For example, if your family team registered for the Basic division, please follow the event schedule for the Basic event. If your family team registered for the MouseAdventure 101 division, please follow that schedule. The “Family team” designation is used primarily for scoring purposes, and does not impact the event schedule or rules for any of the divisions.

2) What to wear:

As always, we suggest that you wear comfortable walking shoes, sun block and hats / visors. Watch the weather forecast, and pack layers if appropriate. Don't forget about our team t-shirt contest!

3) What NOT to wear:

Do keep in mind that Disney does not allow “costumes” in the park, and it is difficult to know where a line might be drawn. Keep this in mind when designing team uniforms, as well the environment we'll all be in, and stay age-appropriate.

4) What to bring:

Our best teams all agree, clipboards are your friends. Some even bring one for each member of their team. Be sure to bring pens and/or pencils, and maybe some scrap paper. It's always a good idea to bring pens of differing colors, as well as highlighters and pencils with erasers.

We also suggest that you bring water and small snacks, so you don't need to stop during the event. You will NOT have time to stop for a meal during this event, and you are going to be hungry. You MUST prepare for this in advance of the game so you do not lose valuable time stopping for a corn dog. Trust us on this one.

Finally, be sure to be prepared with comfy shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, hats, sun block and sunglasses.

5) What to leave in your car or locker:

Electronic devices, calculators, GPS units, reference materials, trivia books, and other such aids. You won't be allowed to use them, and they get heavy if you have to haul them around all day! Players may carry cell phones with them so they can be reached in the event of an emergency, but teams will receive penalties, up to disqualification, if players are caught using cell phones or text messaging during the event.

6) Other considerations:

If you are participating with small children, be prepared to play just for fun, and leave the stress of competition behind. Non-registered friends, companions and children over 5 years old may not accompany your team during the game, even if they “aren't helping.”

Teams may not work together, and related teams should not be working on the same quest at the same time. If you have registered multiple teams of friends / family, please understand that your teams will be required to split up during the event. Consider holding your own mini-competition to see which team gets the best score!

7) Weather report:

As frequent players know, the day of any particular MouseAdventure usually turns out to be the hottest day of that given month. While we hope this holds true for this event, be sure to check the weather forecast so you know what to expect on game day. Rest assured, MouseAdventure will go on rain or shine. However, rain may require us to change or cancel portions of the event. Unfortunately, there is very little we can do about this, so keep your fingers crossed that the Magic of MouseAdventure works to keep skies clear.

Event Rules

These rules cover the basics of MouseAdventure – additional rules may be given to teams before or on the day of the event. Please study these instructions to avoid confusion, point penalties, or even disqualification.

These rules apply to all teams participating in MouseAdventure, regardless of division, unless otherwise indicated below. Unidentified crew members are monitoring for violations and although their decisions may be subjective or susceptible to misunderstanding, there is no appeal.

If during the event you need to do something that may look like you are violating one of these rules, consider returning to MouseAdventure Central in either park and inform the staff members there before you do it.

  • Disney parks are dynamic places – who knows what may change and affect this game? Consider stopping by the MouseAdventure Central station during the game to see if there are any new announcements or changes.
  • Return the entire packet to the MouseAdventure Central station at the conclusion of the game. (Official end time will be announced later) Late returns may not be graded. You must be in line to return the game packet by the announced time.
  • Teams must stay together through the event. All teammates should be within a few feet of each other unless an exception has been indicated. Exceptions:
    • Restroom breaks (the rest of the team must remain nearby).
    • If you must ride an attraction, team members who are unwilling or unable to ride that attraction may wait at the attraction's exit. However, you may not leave any game materials with that team member.
  • Prohibited behaviors
    • Running. Your team is only as fast as your slowest member. If your slowest member cannot keep up with the rest of the team, you are considered separated. You should also not try to move faster than the local conditions allow; forcing your way through crowded areas will also result in penalties.
    • Line-cutting, pushing, shoving, or other rudeness. Play it safe since this is essentially a subjective call.
    • Any kind of overt cheating. Examples would be looking at another team's materials, or asking people not on your team for assistance.
    • Reference materials other than the Guide to the Magic park map and brochure. Unless the quest indicates otherwise, the use of any other reference materials is strictly prohibited (this includes any materials you may bring with yourself, as well as books available in various stores).
    • Use of electronic equipment to aid in event completion (including FRS radios, ham radios, GPS, cell phones, digital cameras, audio recorders, camcorders, pagers, laptops, PDAs, and so on). If anything intrudes on the game that requires using one of these things, returning to MouseAdventure Central to do so is the safest thing.
    • Asking Cast Members for assistance. CMs often know when MouseAdventure is occurring and are known to purposely give wrong information. Teams found getting CM assistance receive no credit for that quest, even if the Cast Members initiate the assistance. Be polite in telling them you need to do it yourself.
  • Quest answers must be written in the indicated locations on the answer sheet(s). If you don't answer a question where indicated by the quest, there is no guarantee it will be seen.
  • Team players must be 6 years or older and identified when you sign-in. Substitutions must be made prior to the start of the event. Each team member must wear the appropriate team numbers as indicated at all times during the game.
  • Teams must have at least 2 players and no more than 4 players at any time. If a team member must drop out during the game, return to MouseAdventure Central for instructions. Non-registered friends, companions and children over 5 years old may not accompany your team during the game.
  • Do not loiter at MouseAdventure Central; leave the area promptly once you have your materials or questions answered.
  • Teams may be required to ride attractions or enter queues. If you must ride an attraction, team members who are unwilling or unable to ride that attraction may wait at the attraction's exit. However, you may not leave any game materials with that team member.
  • Registered participants consent to the use of their likeness in photos for articles about, and promotion of, the event.
