The return of
DisneylandBlues
Haunted Mansion
/ New Orleans Square

When I started on Disneyland, my wife used to say, "But why do you want to build an amusement park? They're so dirty." I told her that was just the point - mine wouldn't be.
- Walt Disney

From Dreams, Traditions and Transitions [a park souvenir book] by Leonard Shannon:

The idea of a deserted mansion haunted by the ghost of a murderous sea captain was born in the early 1950's and took shape in the form of an architectural sketch in 1957. Right away there was disagreement about how the mansion ought to look. Some Disneyland designers thought it should be spooky and sepulchral; Walt, who did not want anything in the park that looked unkempt, held out for neatness.

The queue you are seeing this all from also is all chipped and peeled, from railings to trash bins.  This isn't just a year's worth of damage - they've been ignoring this since Pressler first arrived at the park.

They no longer bother keeping any kind of appearances either - these floor mats stayed draped over the railings the entire day visitors strode past them.

The mansion isn't alone in it's neglect in this area of the park... below is the courtyard between the Pieces of Eight and Port d'Orleans shops.  I guess they figured no one looks up?

The balcony above in the two shots is the back entrance to the Disney Gallery upstairs above Pirates.

Take a look on the NEXT PAGE at how bad areas of ToonTown and Tomorrowland look.
