TOKYO DISNEYSEA (continued)
(DAY 1 - TUESDAY, 1/29/01
- continued)

The village has several
scientifically-themed rooms with DaVinci-style science
exhibits and demonstrations, including a pendulum and a working Camera
Obscura.

We even found a magician plying his trade.

The ship has cannons that can be "fired" and ropes to raise
and lower pulleys or pump water out of the ship.

Details abound, even in the rooftops.

The theming here, as in the rest of Tokyo DisneySea, is exquisite,
and the views from the ship and the higher floors of the fortress are
fantastic. (This is also a great place from which to view the lagoon
show).

The nightly DisneySea lagoon show
is called DisneySea Symphony, and is attended by a vast
majority of guests. We decided that the Japanese guests felt that they
were obligated to attend the various shows throughout the park, as we
always saw massive crowds and long lines at the various theaters. Again,
a great time to hit Indy or Journey to the Center of the Earth is during
this popular show. We decided to catch it another night, or check it out
from our hotel room.
The shops within DisneySea start getting crowded about 2 hours prior
to park closing, and make it nearly impossible to shop while maintaining
your sanity. We did some shopping throughout the day and took advantage
of their shopping delivery service, which sends your purchases to the
hotel bell desk at the end of the day. If your packages aren’t at the
bell desk when you return to the hotel, the desk will call you when they
show up, and they’ll then deliver them directly to your room if you’d
like.

We had dinner just before the park
closed at Vulcania in Mysterious Island which
serves Chinese food (shown above). The restaurant was virtually
deserted. The food was good, but somewhat bland (compared to our past
Chinese food experiences). My Sweet and Spicy Pork was not much of
either, and the Stir Fry Rice was not like the Chinese fried rice we
were used to getting at Chinese restaurants. We were delighted however
to see that the restaurant had just as much theming as any of the rides.
By now it was park closing time, so we headed back to the hotel. Some
selected shops and restaurants in Mediterranean Harbor stay open an hour
after closing, but everything else gets locked up tight right at closing
time.
