Part Thirteen: Mysterious Island
Captain Nemo also tells us a little about
Mount Prometheus itself...

...what he leaves out of course is that the
Mount also comes equipped with a gift shop and restaurant... ;) ...below
is the view from a bit further back.

Even the shops fit into the environment
flawlessly - great care was taken to blend them right into the fantasy -
something that cannot be said for the shops in California Adventure.
This is the Nautilus Gift Shop...

It appears that even the ice cream outdoor
vending cart (below left) has been carefully worked into the design. No
bulky boxcar- like stands that California Adventure has.

Captain Nemo has thought of everything for
his guests, even building the Vulcania Restaurant so they have someplace
to grab a bite.

It seems that DisneySea has kept in mind
that sometimes an incredibly detailed interior can make for a one of a
kind dining experience - this appears to be DisneySea's Blue Bayou type
of dining locale. Note the close up ceiling shot below - and the level
of theming they have gone for even in something simple like the lighting
fixtures.

Captain Nemo even runs his own utility
company - that's his monogram on that manhole cover you see below there.

Wow, what can I say except that I have some
awfully mixed feelings here?
I'm excited and delighted that Disney's
Imagineering division can still do things like this. I'm depressed that
people like Paul Pressler, Barry Braverman and Michael Eisner don't feel
that you the paying customer here in the United States deserves anything
of this same kind of quality for the premium prices Disney charges here.
DisneySea got the candy it looks like. And
we got a rock I guess.
With this section we pretty
much conclude MousePlanet's DisneySea in park visit - but our
photo tour will continue as we have some new photos of the
Mediterranean Harbor area, and a rather unique series of shots
showcasing the remarkable theming work in the Mira Costa Oceano
Restaurant.
Again, our extra special thanks goes to Todd
Meigan (our DisneySea insider who took all these wonderful shots) and
Lani Teshima (who helped obtain and organize this tour for us). We also
want to thank all the MousePlaneteers who helped out here and there as
this thing came together (we were winging it all the way!).
And I personally want to thank all of you
readers who have followed this along and written in as the series
unfolded. It seems a lot of you are planning trips to Tokyo now... ;)
