Celebrate the Year of the Tiger

Disney California Adventure celebrates the Year of the Tiger starting this Friday with the return of the popular Lunar New Year Festival. The festival runs January 21 to February 13, 2022.

A highlight of the celebration is the return of the popular “Mulan’s Lunar New Year Procession,” which this year features a new "breathtaking float featuring traditional drummers" with Mulan and Mushu on board. Disney says the float will be decorated with lanterns to enhance evening performances. Tigger will lead the procession, which also includes umbrella and fan dancers and a Chinese dragon.

Also new this year is an appearance by Raya from Raya and the Last Dragon in a new meet-and-greet location inside the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail.

At Paradise Gardens Park, Mickey, Minnie, Mulan, Mushu, Tigger and the Three Little Pigs will rotate through a Lunar New Year meet-and-greet photo opportunity. The Paradise Gardens area will also feature craft stations, Lunar New Year photo spots, live music, and the return of the Lucky Wishing Wall.

In addition to the seasonal menu offered at the Paradise Gardens Grill, there will be four marketplace booths featuring a variety of Asian-inspired dishes. Disney will again offer a Sip and Savor Pass especially for the Lunar New Year Festival, though pricing and menu details have not yet been released.

Magic Key holders can take advantage of several special offers during the Lunar New Year Festival. The area under the Silly Symphony Swings will serve as a Magic Key holder headquarters during the event, offering a special photo opportunity and an exclusive dining area. Magic Key holders who visit between 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. daily can receive a special Lunar New Year button.

Disney will also offer a discounted Sip and Savor Pass for Magic Key holders, which comes on a themed lanyard.

Tickets on sale this week for D23 Expo 2022

The 2022 D23 Expo is scheduled for September 9–11 at the Anaheim Convention Center, and this week is your first chance to score tickets for what is billed as the Ultimate Disney Fan Event. D23 Expo is like a giant Disney trade show, with presentations, panels, performances, exhibits and retail offerings from nearly every division of the Walt Disney Company.

D23 doesn't release a final event schedule until much, much closer to the start of the Expo, but event highlights are sure to include announcements from Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, giving a preview of projects planned for Disneyland, Walt Disney World and Beyond; a presentation from the Walt Disney Studios about upcoming live action and animated projects; and the Disney Legends Awards Ceremony.

There are sure to be concerts and performances, parades and processions, and opportunities to hear from Disney Imagineers, artists, animators, and creators. In the words of the Lion King, there is more to see than can ever be seen; more to do than can ever be done.

D23 Expo tickets go on sale this week. Photo courtesy Disney.

Ticket types and prices

All D23 members can purchase one-day or three-day tickets to the Expo. D23 Gold members may also purchase a Hall D23 Preferred Seating pass, which includes a three-day ticket and guaranteed preferred seating to all presentations in the 7,000-seat Hall D23, including the Disney Legends Awards Ceremony.

One-day tickets are $99, while a three-day pass is $279. D23 Gold members and children ages 3–12 receive a discount on general admission tickets.

The Hall D23 Preferred Seating pass is $899 per person ages 3 and up, and Disney says quantiles are very limited.

Disney Visa presale

D23 members who are also Disney Visa cardholders can take advantage of a one-day presale to purchase general admission 1-day or 3-day tickets on Wednesday, January 19. These tickets go on sale at 10:00 a.m. Pacific, and Disney says presale quantities are limited. You must be a D23 member to purchase tickets. You can join as a complimentary General Member, or purchase a Gold Membership.

The Hall D23 Preferred Seating pass will not be available during the Disney Visa presale.

General sale

Tickets for the Hall D23 Preferred Seating pass and all other admission media goes on sale Thursday, January 20 at 10:00 a.m. Pacific. Again, you must be a D23 member before you can purchase tickets. You can join as a complimentary General Member, or purchase a Gold Membership. We recommend joining D23 by Tuesday so your membership has been processed and is ready to use when registration opens.

Mickey's very popular birthday party

Reservations opened last week via the Disneyland website for the new Celebrate! In Mickey’s Toontown birthday party package, and it looks like Mickey is going to have a lot of party-goers visiting his home shortly.

You can celebrate your birthday this winter at Mickey's house in Toontown. Photo courtesy Disney.

The package offers a private party at Mickey's Toontown house for families and groups of up to 10 people, and is being offered on a trial basis from January 19 to March 6, 2022. Disney says the 90-minute birthday experience includes "cupcake decorating, games, crafts, a Disney PhotoPass photo opportunity with Mickey Mouse and quicker entry to Gadget Go Coaster."

There appear to be 10 sessions available each day, spaced at 15-minute intervals. That suggests to us that the meet-and-greet experience with Mickey will be relatively brief, with the rest of the event taking place in the venue, which Disney describes only as an "enclosed space with low lighting."

The cost is $350 per party, and party size is strictly limited to 10 guests, including infants. Of course, theme park admission and Disneyland park reservations are required for each member of the party (that is, you still need to pay separately to get into the park).

At press time, nearly all weekend sessions for the premium experience are already booked, with many weekdays having only a few slots open.

Disneyland After Dark

Tickets went on sale last Tuesday, January 11 for two Disneyland After Dark events, Villains Nite and Star Wars Nite. At press time, tickets are still available for both of the Villains Nites, March 8 and 10. Tickets start at $119 per person, and are available via the event website.

Two of the three Star Wars Nites are now sold out, but you can still get tickets for the event on May 3. Tickets for that event are $134 per person, and available via the event website.

All five dates of the February Sweethearts Nites events are now sold out.

General admission tickets go on sale January 11, 2022.
  • Disneyland After Dark: Star Wars Nite – May 3, 4, 27 at Disneyland. Visitors who had already purchased a ticket to the canceled 2020 event may exchange their ticket for a ticket to the 2022 event by January 8, 2022. Visit the event website for details. General admission tickets go on sale January 11, 2022.
  • Grad Nites: May 13, 14, 18, 20, 21, 25, 26 and 31; June 1, 3, 4, 7, 8, 10, 11 and 17
  • 2022 D23 Expo – September 9–11, 2022 at the Anaheim Convention Center.

We also recommend checking the convention calendar at the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau website. When looking at that site, remember to note both the number of people and the number of rooms resulting from each convention. A gathering of 25,000 people booking few room nights (indicating most will be driving in to the area for their meeting) can impact traffic around the resort much more than a crowd of 25,000 staying in area hotels. Of course, that second group is going to make finding a hotel room more difficult (and possibly more expensive), so it's best to book your own room as early as possible if you see that a big convention is in town during your trip.

Current Discounts and Promotions

Disneyland prices as of October 25, 2021.

Note: MousePlanet does not edit past Updates to reflect price increases; for up-to-date prices, check the most recent Disneyland Resort Update. Several current promotions offer discounted admission to the Disneyland Resort. For your convenience, we have grouped the discount offers based on the number of days the tickets are valid. Check out the category that best matches the amount of time you plan to spend at the resort, and pick the offer that works best for you. And keep those tips coming—let us know if you find a better or different offer, so we can share it with other readers!

This first section is a list of discounts on ticket-only purchases. Though it has become more common in recent years, Disneyland tickets are rarely offered at deep discounts unless you are a resident of Southern California or Northern Mexico. For residents outside that area, the best discounts available tend to be simple advance purchase discounts. If you know of any additional discounts, offers, promotions, or contests that should be listed in this section, drop us a line. Note, we are no longer listing offers from the Anaheim-Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, as their convenience fee negates any savings.

Don't get scammed! Never buy tickets from an unofficial or secondary outlet, such as through eBay or Craigslist. Never rent or purchase tickets from people approaching you outside the gates stating they have remaining days or leftover tickets. This practice is against the terms of use for Disneyland admission, and may result in denial of entry. It is also common for criminals to shoplift inactivated Disney theme park tickets from supermarkets to resell them. There is no way to determine if these tickets are valid until you try to use them to enter the parks. Only purchase Disney theme park tickets directly from Disney, an authorized seller, or travel agency like MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.

SoCal Resident Ticket Offer

The Southern California Resident Ticket offers residents of Southern California admission to either Disneyland or Disney California Adventure up to three weekdays between January 3 and May 26, 2022.

You can use every day of this ticket at the same theme park, or visit different parks on different days, but you can't use it to enter both parks on the same day. The ticket is $199 for ages 3 and up, which is the same price as the 2020 offer. Of course, this new ticket is valid only Mondays through Fridays, and weekends are not included.

For an additional $60, you can also upgrade the ticket to a park-hopper, which allows entry to both parks each day. You can also add Disney Genie+ service for an additional $60 for the three days when purchased in advance. Tickets are available through the Disneyland website, or through MousePlanet travel partner Get Away Today.

There's no "fuse" on this ticket, which means that you can use the first admission on January 3 and wait until May 26 to use the remaining admission. However, remember that you must make a theme park reservation for each day that you want to use the ticket. Disney also warns that ticket sales may be paused or ended at any time, so it's probably best to purchase early so you're ready to make reservations as soon as they open for your desired travel dates.

Tickets expire on May 26, 2022, and unlike past years, do not have a spring blockout period. However, we estimate the peak Spring Break crowds will arrive April 11–22, 2022. so plan your visits accordingly.

Disney states that proof of residency is required for purchase and admission, and each resident can purchase up to five tickets per day.
