Featured Topic - Main Street Barber Michal Marach

In this week's feature, Mark and Mike were joined by Michal Marach, the popular mainstay of the Main Street Harmony Barber Shop.

Michal is originally from Chicago, and when he closed his hair salon a dozen years ago he went down to Disney and worked as a performer. He went back to Chicago 7 months later, but then realized that he really liked it down at Disney. He returned to Florida, got his Florida cosmetology license, and started doing hair at Disney.

Michal and the other two regulars and fill-ins at the Barber Shop are officially classed as "entertainment" cast members.

When Michal first started doing hair for Disney, he was backstage doing hair for parades such as SpectroMagic (which he performed in at one point).

Michal has a great memory for faces, and manages to remember details about people whose hair he has cut before (though he can't always remember their names).

On a day-to-day basis, the wait for Michal to cut people's hair can be as much as 1-3 hours. There are other days when people can walk in and sit right down in the chair.

Main Street Harmony Barber Shop favorite Michal Marach.

Michal told the story of the origins of the special hair colorings and pixie dust, as well as some other pixie dust stories.

He's got a tremendous following, and he stays in touch with many of his regulars.

Michal described the "First Haircut" Magical Moment experience.

He's got one child who comes down from Detroit with his father every couple of months because Michal is the only one who he'll let cut his hair.

Michal described the Partners award that he received and how he was nominated three times before winning.

Mark has never had his hair cut at Walt Disney World, but he may have to try visiting Michal. Mike will continue to visit Michal in Florida despite the fact that he's currently dating a cosmetology manager.

If you're looking for the Main Street Harmony Barber Shop, it's currently in Town Square between the Emporium and the Fire Station.

Mark also thinks that the new music under the closing makes him think of Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood.

Have you had your hair cut by Michal? What do you think of the special hair coloring and glittering done in the shop? Let us know by sending an email or calling our toll-free feedback line (1-866-939-2278) and let us know what you think!

Wrapping up

On April 27, Mark will be walking to raise money for the March of Dimes for the third time. Please consider supporting him. The March of Dimes mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality.
