Tip of the Week

This week's Tip of the Week came from John Papas, who reminds you not to assume that what you are saying in a foreign language is not understood by people in the park.

Many times people will try to use a foreign language to have a conversation without those around them understanding, but with the international draw of Walt Disney World, there may be people speaking any language near you anywhere at the parks.

(What's your opinion?)

Featured Attraction

This week we look at Walt Disney: One Man's Dream at Disney's Hollywood Studios.

Mark loves this exhibit because it's got so much cool stuff for the Disney geek. From the original "dancing man" miniature animatronic, the mechanical bird in a cage, to an early multiplane camera, a mockup of Walt's presentation of of the Florida Project, and scale models of attractions and theme parks. He also likes it because it reminds people that Walt was a real person and not a made up figurehead.

While the attraction was designed to have the doors closed between the black & white and color rooms except for after a short announcement and musical queue, the doors have been left open permanently for quite some time. While the folks at Disneyland have been wanting to get Walt's office back, that doesn't appear to be in the cards right now.

Review System Spotlight

This week we look at Artist Point at the Wilderness Lodge. MousePlanet readers love it, rating it 4.5 out of five planets. Our featured review this week is by Thymeczech of New York City.

Thymeczech had a wonderful time and wrote a lengthy, glowing review of the restaurant, proclaiming it a "top-rated and magical experience," urging "go, you will love it!"

Mark hasn't had a chance to eat at Artist Point recently, but remembers it as having great food and great atmosphere, and as being remarkably quiet despite its proximity to the Whispering Canyon Cafe. The restaurant is adjacent to the Territory Lounge, which was where Mike got his first taste of a Bluetini and where the famed Bluetini photo was taken.

Mark disagrees with the Park Guide in that he feels that the best steak at Walt Disney World is at the Yachtsman Steakhouse, but the steaks at Artist Point sar still quite good and amont the top steaks at the Walt Disney World Resort..

You can also find Artist Point in our Park Guide.

Ask the Kid

This week's question comes Jeff Peterson, from Ramona, California. Jeff asks: "Which car do you think would win in a race?

  • Herbie ("The Love Bug")
  • Lightning McQueen ("Cars")
  • Gadgetmobile ("Inspector Gadget")
  • R.C. ("Toy Story")
  • Benny the Cab ("Who Framed Roger Rabbit")"

The Kid, who appears more and more comfortable with this segment, unsurprisingly gave Benny the edge again The Kid also jumped in on the a vacant position.

Listener Feedback

Big Brian called in to ask about RSS feeds for blogs on the MousePlanet site. Mark notes that there should be links on the left-side navigation panel of each blog entry. To make it easy to subscribe to the blog of your choice, here are links to all MP staff blogs, in order of number of posts:

Brian also agreed with Mark's assessment of the Main Street pianists on both coasts from the Top 3 Theme Park Music, but he would have a hard time coming up with answers for all categories suggested. He also provided an idea for another category: Top 3 music at attractions not originally from Disney, suggesting Brother Can You Spare a Dime (American Adventure), Battle Hymn of the Republic (Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln), Hawaiian War Chant (Enchanted Tiki Room)

Joe in LA wrote in to ask about the music on the Mad Tea Party attraction. Mark noted that the music is an instrumental version of "The Unbirthday Song" from Disney's Alice in Wonderland movie.

Pacdomer (Paul) wrote in with his own list for our Top3 Theme Park Music categories:

Top 3 Original Attraction Music, Instrumental

  • 3. California Screamin'
  • 2. EPCOT Entrance Medley
  • 1. Soarin'

Original Attraction Music, Vocal

  • 3. "it's a small world"
  • 2. "Imagination" (original version)
  • 1. "Just One Dream" from Golden Dreams
  • Honorable mention: Kellie Coffey's "Promise" from EPCOT and LeAnn Rhime's "Remember When" from Disneyland's 50th

Fireworks or Parade Soundtrack

  • 3. Once Upon a Dream Parade - from Disneyland Paris' 15th Birthday
  • 2. Parade of Dreams - from Disneyland's 50th celebration
  • 1. Illuminations
  • Honorable Mention: Fantasmic and Kellie Coffey's "White Christmas" from the Disneyland Holiday Celebration

Help a fellow podcaster who has lost everything

After the recording of this show, we learned that Doug Price, co-creator of the Radio Adventures of Dr. Floyd (and the voice of Dr. Floyd himself) lost his brand new house in Sylmar, CA and pretty much everything else in the Sylmar/Sayer fire on November 14. You may remember that Steven Ng interviewed Doug and Grant Baciocco on Episode 257, which ran on October 30. Doug is OK, but he lost all of his possessions except for the clothes on his back and the contents of his truck. This happened as Doug's work outlook has just become unstable. Grant has asked supporters of the show to help Doug through this tough time while he waits for the insurance company to sort everything out and eventually get his money to him.
