Sunshine Plaza
Sunshine Plaza was removed as part of the $1 billion expansion and redesign of Disney California Adventure that began in 2009. The area was renovated to become Buena Vista Street, to represent Los Angeles as Walt Disney knew it when he first moved there in the 1920s. Red Car trolleys will travel the street and the Carthay Circle Theatre where Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs premiered will be recreated.
Most of the design elements in Sunshine Plaza since the park opened in 2001 were removed or replaced; the giant mosaic mural at the park entrance was removed to allow the entry gates to be moved out further into the esplanade. The Sunshine Icon and fountain were torn out to make room for the Carthay Circle Theater. The Golden Gate bridge was rethemed.
